P/S hose adapting old and new styles

Post by AwesomeJ10 »

I'm putting a '93 GM 4.3 into my '74 J20 :evil:

It appears the S10 power steering hoses are the same O ring style found on the later FSJ's. Same exact size and threads. The hard line is slightly different, but it would work. Well the J20 has the stock non-o ring style steering gear.

So my question is;

Does anyone have a part number for a power steering hose that adapts and old non-o ring sytle FSJ steering gear to a newer style O ring P/S pump?

You need something like this. Although I think this may go the opposite direction. I think this one is for a box that is o-ring with a flanged line. But they may have others.

Those are pretty cool. Didn't realize those types of adapters actually existed. A new P/S hose is only like $20, so I'd like to get a whole new assembly.

If you are getting a new hose anyway, find a place that makes them. The napa here used to make them, so you can have whatever end you want put on it.

IIRC when they went from the flair to the o-ring, they went from SAE to Metric.

True. That would have been 1980. When I got the J20 steering box, I ordered it spec'd for a 79. The pump was worn out so I got a 79 spec for that too. I prefer the flairs. I've had oring failures that just pissed me off.

There's a place in Denver on Platte River dr. just south of Evans that will make just about any hose you want. Struble Fluid Power 2301 S Platte River Dr, Denver, (303) 225-1921
