Where to mount tach?

Post by pyro »

Looking to pick up a tachometer and want some input. What's the best location to mount it (i'm thinking steering column), and are there any that resemble the OEM gauges?

There are some that match the stock gauges asthetically (look at Stewart Warner, they made the factory gauges), but most go for a "period match", like the SunTach Classic.

EDIT>>> My memory was wrong, it's the Super Tach II, not SunTach Classic. :geek:

Not to derail your train of thought, but something I haven't seen yet but am planning for the Money Badger (my J-10) is a Rebel Machine style~ish in-hood tach. ;)

Grizzly Locker Rear
4" front spring drop, 5" rear shackle flip
Chevy style HEI (ECM controlled)
Dolphin "Shark" gauges in a fancy homemade oak bezel
3/4 resto, rotting faster than I've been fixing it.

I've always mounted mine under the dash, over to the left. I'll leave enough room to get to the E-brake, and it's generally out of the way and easy enough to see.

A Pillar - down low near the dash, nice and easy to see and looks okay.

i found a good deal on the sunpro tach II on the bay, so hopefully ill be receiving that soon. my dash is all curled up on the ends so the a-pillar is a no go for the time being anyway...ill probably go with a generic column mount.

Well, way to go Dingus. I could have spent the evening doing something productive, but SOMEBODY had to put a bug up my butt so I spent it mocking up a casting blank. Thanks jerk. :P

It's the terminal marked "J" on the round plug that plugs into the gauge cluster.
