Michel, yes at this time I do not have an aux cooler installed. I have one in the garage and will install it some time in the future.

Your temps are along the lines of what I was seeing, and I plumbed the temp sender into the output line from the trans to cooler. I saw about 180 avg and about 230 in very technical rock crawling.

That price is crazy!

Question about the probe, do you remember how long is the temp sensor?

I finally decided to install mine, but my sensor is about 1/2 long, I tightened it... in the rear port, need to check in a few hours if it is sealed or leaking!

The fitting has been dripping, how tight can I go? the adapter is brass, the sender some stainless steel... a big yank until it breaks, then 1/8 turn off... just kidding...

Otherwise a big counterwasher and an O-ring, no teflon, no gasket sealant.

I suggest trying some PTFE tape on the threads Michel. The port where you put your sender see's about 250 PSI at times...

Thank you Jim, tightened both fittings a little more. After 2 days, no leaks.... may be I am out of fluid ...

It was colder than usual at around 35F outside, it took about 8 miles for the gauge to move from the base of 80F, and climb to 125F, once in the valley I reached 140F at 65mph, and 160F at stoplights, 168 was the top when going up our steep city streets. The funny thing is that the needle gauge stays at the last temperature reading.
Going up grades it slightly goes up a few degrees, then return to baseline, whatever it is in relation to outside temperature.
Waiting for summer months and crawling to read new numbers.

When you are stopped in gear the fluid temp will go up due to the converter 'stalling'. The same happens when you are crawling about as there is slippage between the converter turbine and shell.

Want to test it? Apply the brakes with a hot engine, put the trans into drive and bring the RPM up to the point where the brakes are almost unable to hold. The temp will rise incredibly fast!
When I drive the Blair Jeep in summer here I place the trans in neutral at the stoplights just to keep the old TH400 cooler...

Coming down Donner pass a week ago, the trans temp did not budge from 99F for 35 miles of slow driving at 30mph. Yes it was in the mid 30s. In Auburn it went to 120ish... at the speed of the unofficial speed limit.
I forgot to say that the PTFE worked wonder, it was a lot smoother to thread the sender too, no drops after a week.

Slight hijack...on the TF727 which of the cooler lines is the outbound line and which is the inbound?

Also, they say to put the probe in the hottest part of the trans. Would that be the pan or the outbound pressure line?
