Definitely a nice Thriftside! Hope to get mine looking that good eventually.

I'm only a few hours away, near Butte MT, so maybe I'll get to see it in person sometime.

Used it today to deliver a car that we sold. Did stop at the scales, was curious what it weighed, 11,500# gross. Wasn't my F350 but it towed it great, towed it a total of about 50 miles. Happy enough it will see more.

I thought I had shared these pics in this posting before, but it seems I did not.
Here is my 1981 J20 towing home a 1993 GMC 3500 extended length cargo van that was powered by a 6.2 liter Diesel.
Sadly, the J20 was lost in my Divorce and was crushed by the fellow storing it.
The van was involved in an accident and was totaled.
Both are gone.

Mid winter lumber purchase (while lumber prices are down) for later projects

Approximately 1400# of lumber on the trailer. Trailer probably weighs around 600-700 lbs

You could definitely feel it back there. I had my case in full time just in case the weight wanted to be unruly and try to push too much.
Would it have been effective? Don't know as I slowed early for curves and kept it under 40mph while staying on back roads.

Gave me a solid indication of what I want to feel confident when towing in the future with a teardrop/squaredrop/egg camper.
Besides the obvious observation of fresh springs, I definitely want 3.31 ratio and I believe the ride will feel more solid with air bag helpers. Probably will also look into a light duty weight distribution hitch as well.... Trailer brakes will be a must for highway speeds as stock brakes are inadequate to slow something that wants to "push" especially in cornering.
Trailer brakes are also convenient should the trailer get slammed by a cross wind and want to sway. I can just activate the brakes on the trailer itself and bring it back under control.

Did well otherwise, even with the 2.72s. I still don't see this thing being able to tow 3500# safely (what it's rated at), especially now when every 4 cylinder is a 14 second quarter mile ride. :D

I checked on towing capacity for my '84 GW, and with proper setup with all safety features, it is capable mechanically to tow up to a 32ft camper.

Myself, growing up on a farm/ranch would not have any issues easily putting that rig out on the hiway in traffic.

As said, with ALL Safety features in place.

Only thinking of a 24 ft, but knowing it can handle more is nice to know.

I'd like to see your proof of that claim of a 32 ft camper.

Yeah, no. These Wags are not designed to tow anything that large, regardless of weight. They don't have the wheelbase for the needed stability.
Even with 3.31s, these 140hp smogged engines aren't going to get up to speed on the highway like you think they will.
You want acceleration while towing, you're gonna need 3.55s at a minimum. 3.73s would be a realistic ratio, but then highway speeds would be an issue without an OD.

I've towed stoopid heavy things before with my old Dodge truck. Way over the rating and not been sketched out about handling. Hay being the least of them. The biggest thing was a 32ft gooseneck over axle equipment trailer loaded with a crew cab dually ton truck. Probably double the GVWR. Pulled 10% grades on that trip. I took it slower, but never felt the trailer would overcome the truck.

There's no way in hell I'd hang a 32ft gigantic wind sail to the bumper of a Wag.
