That is because the unit was designed to wear together. Once the cones wear into the housing it is hard to replace just a cone because of the differences in wear patterns unit to unit. Hope we do not have a issue with these units, but I do suspect there is going to be problems. I think different thickness shims and new clutch washers will also need to be supplied. There is no other way to adjust torque bias. I believe once a new cone is installed the torque bias would need to be checked often and adjusted with shims/washers until the new cone has wore in properly to the housing. Don't get me wrong this is better than nothing, but I believe we will have to play around with it some to get it right. Hope they are willing to help us out till the end.

I don't have a QT but I am excited for you all that do. I imagine there will be some learning pains with the new parts. Hopefully everyone will work together and make it better.

I asked about new cone and thrust washers for the differential last week. An encouraging reply...

Hi Flint,
We tore down a Quadratrac and retrieve the washers so we have a full set. We are looking into producing them now. I just wanted to keep you in the loop. Have a great weekend.

It's really cool they are trying to put this all together. I am going to put Novak on the top of my 'check first' list when I need something. This is awesome support for the hobby. I know they will make money off of it, and they should, but it feels like it is more than just making a buck.

I think that the thrust washers will need to be supplied with different thicknesses so that the torque bias can be adjusted.

Asking for stock spec on cone and thrust washers is probably as good as you can get. If the torque bias is off, it would be handy to "re-shim" with other thickness washers but I would have to ask myself this "If the torque bias is off (too loose or too tight), what is really wrong with this differential?"

Novak came through, BJ's has their cones listed for presale. They said they should be available in a couple weeks.

I'm impressed to say the least. Honestly, how many QT's are really still running around out there? 500? 1000? We really don't know, but Novak has stepped up to the plate and followed through with their promise. Right now I can't think of any other obsolete part brought back from the dead for a piece of equipment that was being sent to crushers at such a high rate and doesn't have a significant following. Novak will make a little money, but in a business sense they have a set of really big nuts. That and a lot of passion for what they do.

Anyway, the new chain kit has been sitting in my shed for the last year waiting for me to install it. Now I can pull that whole QT and go through it entirely and make it like new.

As it stands right now the low range shaft may be the only item I don't have a NOS replacement for. I just added 3 more qts of liquid gold to my collection last week.

Someone should reproduce the rebuild tool kit for these things. I keep hearing of a couple floating around but no pics of them yet.
Are you talking about the Tool Kit that Flint got from me. If you are wanting to see the tooling see if he will bring it to Ouray.

For clarification, the service kit is an AMJ-73.
