Wheel Offset

Post by Knucklehead »

My son is in the process of going spring over on his Wagoneer and we have a question on wheel offset. He was originally going to stick with the stock turbine wheels bit after getting the rear shackle flip installed the truck is going to be to narrow for the height. From what I can find, the stock wheels are 15x7 with 3.75" of offset. Will 15x8 wheels with 2.5" offset cause us any issues? That should give him about 2.25" more width on each side if my math is correct (I hate math).

The 3.75" is actually the back spacing. Different measurement than the offset.

2.5" works but I would advise against it. Some have run with them ok, but it can cause some steering issues.

What I would do (and what I did) was go with wider wheels, which will also give a wider stance. 8" wide wheels with a 12.50 wide tire gives a much wider stance. 1" from the wheel width and an inch or do from the tire. You can go to 10" wheels if you like, but will most likely make your tires rub the fenders unless you trim.

I meant back spacing doh...hold over from my sons R/C offroad racing days. Lol. So we should probably stick with 3.75" back spacing and go a bit wider on the wheel. He is going to be running 33/10.50x15 KM2's so we probably won't go wider than an 8" wheel. Even with that, he will gain 2" of track width.

You can probably find some wheels with 3.25-3.5" BS as well. With my Cherokee NT with the 15x8's and 12.50 wide tires it was perfect. Tires stuck just a bit outside of the fenders.
