AMC 20 Axle shaft lenght

Post by Hill Billy Deluxe »

Hi all....... Came over from the mother board....TY! :)

I never realized that the AMC 20 in my 83' J10 is slightly off center. The Driverside is the short side...correct???

I have never measured my shafts. But depending on what side it is off center too, it could result in same length shafts. A fully "centered" differential will actually have different length shafts if going by the pinion placement. An offset pinion can result in same length shafts.

I am sure some of the companies that make axles have these measurements, if thats what you need them for.

ok, That makes cents to me. Im donin wheel bearing on my truck and when stood up each shaft next to each other, I noticed the shafts wear different length. So i measured from backing plate to carrier bearing and the driver side is 25"ish with Pass-side 26"ish. Just wanted to make sure, as who knows what a PO will do!
