Remove Chrome Plate

Post by fenix687 »

alot of the chrome is pealing off of my grill (pignose) and i would like to remove it all and repaint it. i have read some articles by googling different things and some people have soaked it in bleach for a period of time. is there another way to do this? i don't think the wife will like me buying gallons and gallons of bleach and taking over her bath tub to soak it in. not to mention it will probably look like i am making "bath salts" when i check out at the store.

thanks

maybe you could try sanding it, and using bleach in the places you cant get to with the sandpaper.

No matter how you do it, its going to be time consuming. The fastest way would probably be a bead blaster running media that is plastic friendly.

I know when you spill brake fluid on them the chrome peels up nicely... :-x

All of the Dodge vans from the 90's have a sticker warning against spilling brake fluid on the plastic chrome grille. Might be worth a try but if it soaks into the plastic you'll never get anything to stick to it.

I have actually used brake fluid to remove small amounts of paint. It worked pretty good.
