Carb advice: Buick 350 V8 in my fsj

Post by BEHEMOTH »

In my ’69 jeep j3000 is the Buick V8 350, currently it has a Rochester 4bbl (m4mc) on it that is in pretty poor operation. Mainly, I am missing the secondary vacuum brake mechanism for opening the secondary throttle valve, so the secondary valve never opens.
I was looking into having it rebuilt, as I am very inexperienced with carbs. The local guy who comes highly recommended wants ~$280 to rebuild (and that doesn’t include the parts I am missing). Seems like I can get a new carb for not much more than that.
What carb would you recommend? I am thinking an Edelbrock because I have heard they are easy to adjust.

Thanks

Since you posted up in the fuel injection forum, I'm gonna go with throttle body injection. :P

That being said, I like Holley carbs, I had an Edelbrock it didn't work well offroad @ all.

Meant to post in the stock FSJ section. Was flipping through the posts on TBI, just in case there was any carb info in there (what to avoid, etc.). Must have posted while I was still in the TBI section.

X2 on TBI. Once you go TBI, you won't go back.

X2 on Holley, especially the Truck Avenger. I know Flint and Tad have installed TA's within the past year.

Moving thread...

Keep the Quadrajet. They're an extremely good carburetor when they're working right.
