Proper flag mount

Post by 89er »

UNITED STATES CODE; Title: 36, Ch.10, subsection: 175, paragraph (b), that, "(b) The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender." (http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html)

Has anyone properly mounted a flag to their fsj? I want to hang old glory for the 4th but want to do it right. Trailer hitch mounts throwing road grit, exhaust, and dirt at the flag behind you is disrespectful. I'm looking for a way to mount one up front to the passenger fender area like is shown here,

It's nice to see there are people around that realize there are rules regarding displaying the flag with respect.

If you flag is small and has a mast you would using tie wraps to attach to the antenna work?

I have noted to people that they are disrespecting the flag and they seem baffled that we have rules on how it should be treated.

I think You could use some angle stock to attach it to the hood along the under side and have it stick out. That way when you take it off, you don't have holes in your fenders.

Someone in my apartment complex has an American flag sticker which is attached backwards. I've yet to see them to mention it but it irks me. I learned basic flag etiquette in scouts as a kid, something I doubt is taught much anywhere today. I've been around enough dog and pony military functions that it's become almost second nature to recognize something wrong.
I appreciate when people try and show some patriotism but sometimes it's just like wtf... Use Google for xxxxxx's sake.

Jeep Gods forgive me. I did drill 2 holes in the body, but I did it for America. The spot right where the hood touches the firewall. Valley Forge pole bracket.
