My 1975 Cherokee was the unfortunate recipient of a rattle can paint job from the PO. They didn't do that bad of a job until you open any door and find what appears to be the original color.
Now, I want to paint it to look a little nicer that flat black. I am undecided on whether to go with the original color or chose another. Of course, I would do the inside to match the outside. My main problem is that I can't seem to find any of the tags that would have the paint codes on them. So I am guessing at this point. Maybe someone out there could take a look and tell me what I'm working with.
In the picture, the color in the front is Copper Metallic from automotivetouchup.com. Like I said, I was guessing. The color in the back is the original color of the door. They definitely aren't the same. After doing some looking around, I see that there is Renegade Orange (think this is only on CJ's), Omaha Orange, Copper Poly, and Trans-Am Red.
If I can't figure it out, I can always go with a different color. The Reef Green Poly looks nice...
583 is the color code. Copper Poly 2-tone. Alpine White (563) above, Copper Poly below (526). 549 is the trim code, Buff vinyl.
White above is quite practical for one of these Jeeps, as well as attractive. Later cars can be white below, which is backwards from a practicality standpoint.
If the interior is copper and in good shape, keeping that color will save you a ton of work if you repaint to the original colors. Shut the doors and respray.
Buff vinyl is blah, but Copper Poly 2-tone is a nice combo. "Poly" just means metallic.

You just made my wife very happy. She loves the copper/white/tan combo.
My dashboard is in really good shape. A good cleaning would do wonders for it. This makes me happy because solid dashes seem to be few and far between.
One more question about color.
So, thanks for the color decode. That gives me the paint colors for exterior and interior. And it tells me what color the vinyl is. What about the metal dash? It seems to be a darker tan than the vinyl. Was their a standard color for that?
I would not expect the vinyl and steel to match exactly. The would be "coordinated" but time and difference in materials will play a role.
The Buff interior color has a Ditzler number for 1975, 23716. Your local automotive paint store should be able to mix it for you. Can't guarantee it will be a lot different from what you have now. I would look for ahidden place to excavate and see if there is another coat of paint. Automotive paints in earth colors do not change much with age and UV, but plastics definitely will. Plastics tend to turn a sickly yellow on top of the original color, which is supposedly the bromine content coming out.

In my experience the dash matches interior. Sometimes this means matching exterior color. On my Cherokee (brown on beige) the dash was a very different color from the exterior. But on my J10 (blue on blue) the dash matches the exterior.
I am sure someplace notes what paints were used with what interiors, but I do not know where.
The '74-80 factory parts manual lists the interior colors for 1975: black, blue, buff and green, and gives the Ditzler numbers (cited above for buff). Not surprisingly, these match the interior colors listed for 1975. I'd assume that's the color the OP is referring to, and the interior color that is called out in the parts book. My '77 J10 is Sand Tan and the interior is black vinyl bench, with the interior painted body color except for the dash steel, which is black. Same pattern in my '82 J20, white body color with tan interior and tan dash steel, and the interior steel is white elsewhere.
