Does anyone on here have front shafts laying around for a 78 J20 they either (A) want to part with or (B) can at least get me some measurements so I can order a set!? I started with a bare housing on my build so I don't have shafts to measure for reference. I know they are 30 spline inner and 19 spline outer and it is a passenger drop. Any info I can get is beyond appreciated! I am hoping to get these axles built and under the truck and any bugs worked out so I can attempt going to the Jeep fest in PA this year
Widetrack front shafts are the same across the board, at least for a given year (and more likely given era). If you can find front shafts from a '78 J-10, J-20, or W/T Cherokee, they should fit your axle.

If they are, it's news to me. Certainly possible, but not something I've heard of. Everything I've seen is just different hubs, due to bolt pattern. Even the brakes are the same (8 lug rotors, of course). I pulled those part numbers above straight from Dana's BOM search, and they have all three models (J-10, J-20, W/T Chero) listed the same.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I can get both stubs and the passenger side inner from northern. Driver inner I found on ebay. Total for just the 4 shaft sections is roughly $430 shipped and that's without U-joints between the 2 sites. Oh well, that's the last major parts I need for my front other than the passenger side high steer knuckle. The rest is all nickle and dime stuff. Time to get this project finished!
That's a lot of money for used shafts, shipping is probably the major killer there?
Have you looked locally for a whole used axle? Might be cheaper than piecing things together. Another option is new shafts. BJs (and likely others) carry replacement shafts:
Just looked again, and it appears that the outer shafts are the same for quite a few years. '78 and '83, for instance, use the same 620134 outer shaft on both sides.
edit: narrow track axles also use that same outer shaft. Looks like $58.85 at Northern Drivetrain, better price than BJ's.

That price was for all new spicer shafts, not used. Cheaper than BJs. I really want alloys but don't have alloy money at the moment. I want to get this thing together. I can upgrade down the road if I feel the need
I know for a fact that the stub shaft is longer for disc vs drum brakes. Found this out on my old '75 Cherokee which had factory drums. But drums were no longer an option in 76+.
No sorry. All i know about them is the company name. I found it on ebay and they are the ones that shipped it. They have tons of genuine Spicer parts on there
