I have an 85 Wagoneer that I am working on. Right now I have the dash apart and it is easy to get to all the wiring or add wiring. Is the factory cruise a good system and can you get parts for it if it goes bad? Just curious because it would be easy for me to add an aftermarket cruise control system in while I am already working under the dash.

I see plenty of column switches for yours, the paddle type. Not for my 82', I have had to cannibalize parts to get my stock system working. Its a fair system but always a nice option. I'm guessing stock replacement parts are hard to find for yours as well.

I have been looking and there is a company out there called Rostra, that actually makes a lot of OEM systems. They sell a universal aftermarket kit for about $300. From what I can tell on my 85 Wagoneer the cruise control on the steering wheel will work with there system as will the cruise control speed sensor. I would like to go as far and say that my guess is that the original wagoneer cruise was designed by Rostra. Here is a picture of there speed sensor. Looks exactly like the one on my wagoneer.
Yours already has the factory cruise control right? There are lots of parts people on this web site who have all the parts you need, I bought the whole set-up for like $35. Turned out all I needed was the control box and a little lube in the solenoid thingy. She's a happy camper now. I'm betting with these folks to help with parts and advice you can do it a lot cheaper.
