Catalytic Converter

Post by HowardT64 »

Hey Gang...been away a long while. Personal issues and my back. I am not getting around well. Anyhow, I think I may have found out what is causing my performance issues...the catalytic converter. I have two options; buy another for about 50 bucks and have a place here yank the old one and have them install the new one for 75. OR....this may make some cringe, but cut the old one off, replace the section with a chunk of exhaust pipe and eliminate the converter.

Now I know that its illegal. Im trying to save some money here. ANy thoughts or ideas would be welcome :)

Good to be back :)

You need a cat. If you're driving it, you need it. :) Gonna be plenty of people hopping on here saying otherwise, but they're mandated by federal law for a reason.

Not saying I've ever done it, but it's possible to simply gut a CAT pretty easily. Then once you have a few bucks to spare replace it with a new one.

Bring thr old cat to a metal recycler... my original cat on my GW got me 65$ because of the size.weight because they have platinum in them.. And if this is the original cat its probably big like mine was an will pay for your new cat lol

DONT let that shop keep the cat... they will charge you to install the new one and scrap the old one and nake double profit off you

I'd assume the $75 quote you got from the shop is based on them keeping the old one. Better get that straight up front.
