Rear chrome question

Post by Walter »

When I removed the chrome trim from the rear of the vehicle it was attached with clips. The pinch weld was wrapped with a rubbery sticky tape that allowed the clips to snap down without damaging the paint. My question- what is that material, where do you get it, and does someone carry the replacement clips?

I thiink I may cut some peel and seal roofers flashing down and wrap it with that before the clips go back. Think it will work?

If you are talking about the exterior stainless trim I think I have seen trim clips that are very similar on Rockauto.

I would think that the peel & seal would work, that is what it looks like to me.

A member froom the IFSJA forum gave me a lead on the part number from Restoration Specialties. Unfortunately, when I contacted them they told me they have recently sold out of that part. So, I may try to screw them in with small screws and see how that works out.
I have tried to post some pics of the project but I am told my images are too large. So, as soon as I figure out how to reduce their size I will post some pics of what I have done to the Cherokee lately.

If they are the raw images straight from your camera they are way to large to post online. Especially for those with slower connections. You can use most any photo editing program (Preview on a Mac, or Paint on Windows) to resize the image to a smaller size. I would suggest nothing larger than 800x600. You can also do this with what ever software you use to take the photos off your camera.

Walter, if you go to Rockauto and select the Tools and Universal parts tab, select Body-Exterior, Retainer/Clip you will find a boatload of trim type fasteners. I cannot point you in the direction of the exact clip as I don't know the dimensions of your trim but looking through the selection there are many that will work and a few that look to be OE matches.

I think if you screw the trim on the side of your rig you are gonna hate yourself in the morning...

Tried those guys too and nothing on the web looks like the clip. Even the Jeep dealer told me they no longer carry that part.
Thanks for the help though.

Thanks,
I have a parts truck too but...
Here on the southeastern coast what we lack in salted roads we make up for in humid salty air. They are all toast when you pull them.
