haven't even gotten the Jeep yet but wanted to see if anyone has done it or might brain storm on what might work. I really don't want to cut the top off until I know of a system that might work. Even if it means having one of the boat canvas places here making a top. Want to also look into maybe "soft doors" or like a member did on IFSJA and get an extra set of doors and modified them.

Back when I had my cherokee I considered doing this. At the time it was going to be around $750 for a custom top to be made. These days it would most likely be double that. I ultimately didn't do it, partly because chassis flex is so bad on Cherokees and Wagoneers with the top in place, much less once you remove the top. You really need to re-enforce the sides or the flop all over making closing the tail gate kind of hard, even on level ground.
OK, well, decided to get the Cherokee, trading my 4.7 Stroker straight 6 for it. Anyway. Rust through drivers floor, passengers floor and rear floor area rear flares and spots around the rain gutter at the roof. So I can get floor panels from BJ's right, how about the rain gutter, cut it off and weld up? Rear fender flares, get fiberglass ones from BJ also? Any ware else. This 76 has a 304 (i Know, never in a SJ but the 401 was removed) th400 and quadratrack. So, never had a quadratrack, what to look for as far as little issues. May go the "VW Bug" roof thingy.

Naw, may still do the soft top. I have been looking at Scout II soft tops. Does anyone know the difference in the Scout II. Some look like a Blazer or Broncos, others look like they may have close to the same body length as a 2 door Cherokee.

When I was growing up in Palmer, AK, (80s/90s) there was a mid-late 70's Cherokee Chief running around with a Scout Traveler hard top on it. In summer you'd see it with the top off, so I know it was made to be removable. It looked like it fit pretty well, as the Travelers were pretty darn big. I imagine a Scout Traveler soft top kit and frame could be made to fit even easier than the hard top job that the guy did back then.

Maddening, that may be the scout I was looking at. Body style kinda looks like the 2 door Cherokee. Humm, need to see how they connect to the windshield top part and get measurements if I can.

well, at just over 1K for a Scout soft top, I may hit a few of the boat canvas places and see what they can do. And yes, if/when I cut the top, I plan on re-enforcing the rear body.
