Something following my Jeep....

Post by ghcoe »

I have something following my Jeep now. A foam trailer.......What!

Yes a foam trailer. This one I built for off road use. It has a dry weight of only 385lbs. Not finished, but was able to keep up with the Jeep on my last two trips. Footage in this video is from the Steens/Alvord trip I took a few weeks ago.

Yes. I am building a YouTube channel to show people how I am building one like this one https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3xVuH ... SiploqPyrw. There is some video in there now from this build, but it is not put together real well since I was just going to make a written manual. I decided to do a more step by step video series and put it on YouTube.

This is the second foamie I have built the first one is bigger and weighs 510lbs, but I don't take it off road.

I have a good write up on it here http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=54099.

Oh, very cool. I was wondering what you coated the foam with. The canvasing is really cool, looks like it adds a lot of strength. Out of curiosity, did you coat the bottom of the OSB floor with anything?

The XPS foam is actually pretty tough by itself, but once you coat it with canvas it becomes quite a bit stronger. It's kinda like a I beam effect.

I used Henry's Dura-Brite White Elastomeric Roof Coating on the smaller trailer (video) and Henry's Asphalt Roof Coating Emulsion on the larger trailer. The Asphalt coating was a bit too nasty for me to want to put it on another trailer.

Yeah, henry's asphalt is a mess.
