New guy - New J10

Post by Scott2 »

In the early '80's I owned a sweet '79 Cherokee Chief and loved that vehicle! It's long gone but my high school sophomore son is gearing up to drive. He wants something different than all his friends and that he could take up in the Rockies to go fishing and camping. I suggested a Jeep and we ended up finding this nice '79 J10. 360, 4 speed, 4WD of course, 79K miles, and pretty good overall.

We are in the process of putting on 33-10.50-15 BFG's on an original set of white spoke wheels off another J10, and installing a new 3" MagnaFlow converter and muffler. Then we have to fix the rusty floors, try to find bumpers that aren't crunched, etc.

Is that the one that was on Colorado Craigslist sitting in a back yard? Did it have a camper shell on it?

Good looking start, that patina has to stay, so long as there are no holes it's cool that way!

Also I recognize that damage to the right rear flare! I had a '75 Cherokee Chief when I was 17 and one day on the highway the rear axle shaft and wheel shot out of the axle housing and headed on down the highway of its own accord, , leaving me damage exactly like that! :x

Cool project for you and your son. Looks like it has good bones and a solid tailgate too!
