New MSD Blaster 2 Coil in 78 Cherokee.

Post by NorthGaAire »

About to finish the plugs, wires, coil upgrade in my 78 Cherokee with 360.

It has the factory Ignition Control Module - which is new, all the epoxy melted out of it with the previous owner - but is still working.

I am installing the MSD Blaster 2 coil.

Studying the wiring diagram, I see a "Capacitor Jumper" drawn and attached to the + side of the coil. Where would it be in the vehicle?
Do I need to install the capacitor that came with the MSD Blaster 2?

Also, the existing coil has the factory clips for the + and - attachments - so they will be replaced with the new terminals.

Any advice for aftermarket coil noob?

The capacitor is there to reduce electrical noise from the ignition.

The general consensus says that it is basically worthless and has no effect at all.

I wired up green to "-" and yellow to "+". Works fine.
