Built a console thingy for my truck today

Post by Phils67 »

I couldn't take the lack of storage and cupholders anymore so spent most of the day building this ugly contraption haha i am just happy it works. It is not the prettiest but is functional. Don't mind the sloppy tray area and random sloppy upholstery spots, i have to get more staples and adhesive to tighten it up. Anyone have pics of home made consoles they could share to give me ideas for a better design in the future? [QURL=http://s32.photobucket.com/user/jeeppun ... g.jpg.html]Image[/URL]

I tried building my own and got frustrated. Ended up buying one and modifying it. Congrats on having the patience

Youd figure after 30 damn years Jeep woulda made a console in these things.. I hated havig no storage or cup holders in ny 90 grand wag... Finally found that a buick road master center flip arm rest bolts right in with very little modification has cup holders storage and a coin thingy and matchs the leather color.

Yours looks good !! Better having absolutetly nothing.

If the police officer pulls you over for drinking that budwiser in your truck just tell him your testing the cup holder out you just made..

That budweiser was just to test stability and spill resistance haha i didnt leave the yard with it that day. That was the last thing I did to the truck in weeks. My brain has been focused on a new project i picked up, a 1972 John Deere basketcase off of my neighbor. I finally just got it running and mostly functional this morning. Not a bad score for a hundred bucks!

Walmart sells those rubber inserts to hold the cups better. My 98 grand cherokee has factory ones thank god.. they never put em in the 96-97s so people pay like 30$ each for em.. I look for them in 98 grand cherokees when i go to salvage yards.

It holds cups pretty steady. Only issue is the depth. Theyre like 3 inch deep so my coffee mug is slightly angled because of the handle.

You can cut a handle width slot facing forward for your mug. I have a cupholder like this in my Land Cruiser and it works great.

Ive thought about that but it doesnt bother me enough just yet. If i turn the handle toward the dash it will sit correctly, its just awkward to grab that way. Still way better than having it all over the floor or my lap
