Hello everyone. Longtime lurker, first time poster. New guy here, just wanted to say hello. I have been reading through the many great threads on this forum on and off for the last year; just registered a couple of days ago. I have always loved the style and look of the FSJ. I have finally joined the club...
I purchased a 1970 Jeep Wagoneer Saturday. It is not perfect, but it is nice enough for me and will give an opportunity to repair and learn and work on it with my children. Some specifics on the Jeep are:
-1970 Jeep Wagoneer
-Buick Dauntless V8 350
-GMC 3spd Automatic Transmission
-Front axle Dana 27
-Rear axle Dana 44
-3 inch lift kit w/Rancho RS5000 shocks
-about 45,000 miles
-after market bumpers (front and back)
-1414X vin
Thank you all for being such a wealth of knowledge, tips and advice. I will apologize ahead of time for any, silly questions or lack of mechanical expertise/understanding in future posts. Can't wait to really get to know the ins and outs of this Jeep!

Welcome Welcome!
Any pics yet? Where abouts are you located? FSJs are great to learn/teach with the kids. You really can't break too much. And depending on ages little fingers fit in those awkward spots that engineers seem to think are convenient for bolts (but aren't!!!). That Buick is a good motor, kinda hard to get parts for but not impossible. Should be a Turbo 400 behind it too.
Enjoy the FSJ life!

Thank you, Reno! No pictures yet; I want to get it registered and get some new plates on it (will try after work this afternoon). Its home is in San Diego. I'll have to crawl around under it a bit more. Already have some ideas of projects for it...put in a/c, swap front axle to d44 with disc brakes, touch up a couple spots by the rain gutters, make the interior pretty (carpet, trim, door panels), etc.

jpswapmohn- Definitely will be some custom touches; I'm already starting a list of the little odds and ends that I'd like to pick up to make it a bit more "mine." Thanks already to the folks on here that are open to helping out.

The 1414X ... the X denotes it as a custom version. You should have the interior of a Super with floor shifter and maybe A/C.
They are really nice to start from, although I have only found then in yards to get parts from..
I think we all have to make them ours, unless you are going for a full restoration to stock.

Congrats, 1414X or custom special are rare, only around 3,000 built, the 68 were special order rigs and the 69, 70 were introduced as the super wagoneer successors, with an avocado mist paint and woodgrain on the body sides. All 1414X had the V8, super bucket seats and the console shift automatic transmission.
Would you mind sharing the black and yellow sticker in the cab (driver door jamb) with the vin and production date ?

Thanks for that intriguing information, jpswapmohn and mud! I will have to get a picture of the plate and sticker. I do know the sticker said May1970 for the production date. Now I want to research what came in the custom special packages when they were new. I also want to see if I can find the original paint tag on the firewall too. This is such a great forum and so much knowledge.

Would be interesting to get the paint and trim tag on the firewall, unfortunately it's often lost.
I have a 69 bulletin with all the 1414X infos, i can try to share it (i don't use photobucket anymore..) or send a scan

If present, this is what the paint and trim tag looks like. Passenger side of the firewall. These are thick foil and glued on, so often lost as mentioned.

Thanks folks, yup its the white one baby wag...I am starting to get a list of things that I want cleaned up on it, that's one if the areas as well as the couple spots along the rain gutter and the paint that are on "long term" list.
Mud, I would love to see the bulletin if you are willing to share. I can pm you my email, thank you!

Awesome, thank you, Mud89. Unfortunately no luck on finding the paint/trim tag. I looked on the passenger-side firewall inside the cab and along the back of the engine. A bit disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing what color it started life as.
