Help and guidance

Post by Grandma »

First post. So I went to look at a Cheif. The inside was full of garbage, windshield, rear glass and passagneer gone. The body was ok. Not the best. The motor isn't locked up. There is 117,000 miles on it. The paint is garbage. The grill is cracked. It needs a lot of work. I don't really know what the condition is of the inside until all the trash is cleaned out. I am just a driveway wrencher and I need your help in making the decision. The price 800 bucks.

It has been my experience that many of the parts I need or have needed for my Wag have been hard to come by. Perhaps you could post some pictures?

Welcome! Sounds pretty rough. Around here a windshield is about $300 installed if you don't need new seal. Just considering the missing glass, $200.

Here is my take on most FSJs:
$500 if I can drive it on a trailer. $400 if the engine starts but it won't move. $300 if engine won't start and I need assistance getting it on a trailer.

Some people think that my take is unfair. I don't care.

Yes, for $800 I would not touch it unless it runs and drives and has a title.

$800 is fantasy for that, any location. The original flares have been cut away, or it's a narrow track with big wheel well cut-outs. Keep looking.

Parts car, maybe worth $200 for the steel.

That's worth scrap weight and basically nothing else. And that's assuming someone else hauls it to the scrap yard for you.

They are asking about $700 too much. Based on the picture, and your description, the last few things need to be parted out and then it gets junked. Sad.

Is that a factory grill guard? If you could get it cheap enough it would be a good parts truck or part it out to make some $ for another project.
