Weight of 360 short (micro?) block

Post by weeegoneeer »

Hey there!

Wondering if anyone knows offhand the weight of just a 360 block - minus crank, intake, heads, pistons, accessories. I know it's 540lbs with all that stuff in/on it.

About to strip one down off a stand, and the geometry of my house and immovable vehicle won't allow me to use an engine crane to get it into a pickup to get to the machine shop. Wondering up front if it's something me and a couple friends could muscle over.

A 360 bare block can definitely be handled by two average dudes. I'm no pinnacle of male perfection and I can get an AMC bare block in and out of a Buicks trunk solo, but wouldn't want to carry it more than a step or two.

I'd bet you're going to end up somewhere between 150-200lbs for a bare block. The iron intake alone is around 80lbs? The heads have to be 40-50lbs each (maybe more?). Add in the rotating assembly at probably ~100lbs. Throw in an extra 60-70lbs for everything else and you're right around your 540lbs mark.
