Mounting tailgate glass

Post by wag86 »

I' m ready to replace my tailgate glass (GW) by a better one; i' ve got the glass, a new bottomstrip and the rubber seal. Can i Just try and squeeze the glass in or do i need extra sealant to go between the glass and the seal?
Thanks!

No sealant required. I've read on the forums that it can be a pretty tight fit.

Mine was glued in with no rubber strip, presumably from the factory.

No sealant. I had to use a rubber mallet and carefully tap it down a bit at a time. Was sorta scary, but didn't brake the glass.

Yep. This and some good carpet to stand the glass on upside down as you beat the lifter bar in place.

One note, Find the centerline of the lifter bar AND the centerline of the glass.

Mark them with a chalk marker (wife's makeup pencils work great  ) .

Use the marks to center the bar with the glass.

It worked! And i didn't have to wack with a hammer; i was able to slide it on from left to right with the help of soapy water and some persuasion. :-bd

Good deal! Probably the easiest rear glass job ever in your case.
