I use an aluminum radiator on mine with no shroud...and mine does okayCatstrader wrote: New to the FSJ world since about a week ago! I purchased a 1980 Cherokee Chief. Among many other problems I’ve come here for help with the fan shroud; or lack thereof. The motor is still running hot and I’m told I need a fan shroud, but I can not find that they were even made for this vehicle or the 1980 Wagoneer. Any suggestions? Know if one that is interchangeable with another FSJ? I’m located in Alaska as well so that adds to the difficulty factor in locating them.
Ha, I was just pointing out what is obvious to some of us about it since Catstrader doesn't have one.Phils67 wrote:I never said the ebay one was good lol.

I watched my friend bolt a CJ rad in place on his 67. Unsure of what year it was from though. It is thinner without a doubt but his bolted right up. Im not trying to argue, just stating what i witnessed. The shroud is another story. He doesnt have a shroud on his. Thats why i said it was a gamble and to take measurements. Just trying to help. Aluminum is the way to go. With temps in the high 90s i run average 190-215 depending on the traffic and driving conditions. Idling in a parking lot for a little while it will get up to 225 sometimes but cools fast when i start moving againStuka wrote:I have a BJ's Aluminum for my i6 (I helped develop it with them) with no shroud, and it runs cool as a cucumber, even on 105F days pulling grades.
The CJ radiator is a different size, and I do not think the shroud will work as they also use a smaller fan.
It is quite possible the 60's models had smaller radiators. Would not surprise me. I have never had them side by side to compare.Phils67 wrote:I watched my friend bolt a CJ rad in place on his 67. Correct. I use a v8 support and rad with my I6. When i replaced the support with a donor v8 one the original rad wouldnt fit it correct. Its close but not close enoughtgreese wrote:I recall the six cylinder radiator is the same width as a CJ radiator. As we know, the 6 and V8 core supports are different, and the V8 radiator is wider.
