Gumby's Ride

Post by rstep »

Well yesterday had the pleasure of helping Martin with his 83 Waggy. We thought for awhile it didn't exsist :-?
But it does and with all the help he has given us it was nice to lend a hand.

Bob I guess that you got me on this one. Yes it does exist, the blood on the floor is a meer flesh wound. I had a conversation on the way back and I guess Murphy must own a FSJ. Because boy does he show up every time I think I can just get in and drive that thing on my trailer :ymdevil: Thanks Bob for you help yesterday.

Well it has been some time since this thing has been seen anywhere but my driveway. I promise you all "I have been busting my chops on it." I actually rebuilt a 1406 that is now running on the engine, but there is no way to know if it is good until I install the exhaust. I just had to fight to install the altenator from the original 360 because I was overcharging and heating up the wire (pretty bad). It was reading 60 and above on the gauge. So I finally got it going now and hopefully I can get the exhaust in soon. My days are crap because of school and the next two weekends we are out of town. So it may be a litle longer... I really cant wait any longer, I want it to be on the road now! Here are a list of what I have done so far...
1. engine swap (2 to 4 brl)
2. TC swap (208)
3. TFI
4. Seats swap (mustangs)
5. Grill swap (boobie)
6. alternator swap 74 to 84 (to properly match harness)
7. new seals and u-joints on Drive shafts.
8. started the de-laminating process.
9. Steering column
10. door handle (1)
11. door cylinders
12. Steering wheel ( I had forgotten about this, the horn still does not work)

This may not be much to most of you but to me these are major milestones. Once I get going and funds become available I will start to do the really put the stuff that is in my brain on papper which may end up on the jeep. Thanks to everyone that has helped me so far, by suplying me parts, ideas, hands, encouragement and motivation. I am not done just a little beaten up but never going to give up. I have to keep going if I think I will ever think about owning another one :D .

These are not very good but they are the best I can get right now. I love the feel of them compared to the stockers. The are also pewered because they use the stock bases. I just need to build a bracket to hold the power controls and possibly fix the lumbar control (not powered).

I think they are from a 94 fox body mustang. I'm not sure how hard they are but, they are on stock bases. If memory serves me I got them from "babywag" from the mother board.

I did more than I really thought....

13. TFI upgrade (it also was a Points ignition and it is now swapped)
14. Replaced both front and rear seals on the transmission
15. Engine bottom end seal (just the pan, also checked if there was excesive play on the bottom end)
16. Junk yard headliner board.
17. Tires (Craigslist? almost new)
Man I am proud of myself now! SCHIT YEAH! This is a lot of work for a jeep that still has not driven on a main street in over three years. I plan on getting the exhaust installed this week, if I can get a trailer tomorrow.

Thanks Tad, I just went by to check on it..... It now does not sound like a battle ship's boiler room. I will head down and pick it up as soon as I can today. I just had an exhaust installed :-D . Now I should be able to move it around and in my garage without the wife threatning to throw me out.

Well all said and done it sounds VERY QUIET. Not bad work at all just a simple 2.5" with a custom "Y" pipe. The motor came from a 70s waggy with a 400 behind it. The Y pipe from the donor nor the original 84 would not fit, the donor would hit the front diff and the original would not mate to the driverside manifold. So now it works and it looks pretty good too, my kids no longer go running and screaming when I start it up.
