I am about to do my second one. The first, I used a few of those eraser wheels and saved the paint, but it took for ever. I like them better without the wood. Yours came out nice.

Is the Jeep named Pokey or Gumby or neither? :D

It looks GREAT without the wood crate wrapped around it. :-bd

Flint: so far the family has named it "Junk", but no other name has been given.

Jerry: I guess this gives me a reason to get a new one, there is no way I am going to replace all the work I just put in.

Pokey is really a cool traveling buddy, I would hate to have my jeep ride like him. If my memory serves me well I bet he was a pain in the @$$ .

Isn't "pita" pretty much descriptive of ALL FSJs?

Pita would be a better name than Junk but I also understand Junk may be a reliable name in some cases. My Jeep is currently Junk. ;)

Thanks guys.... by the way I just really did my first real body repair. I minimized that dnt in the rear driver side. Not too bad for a rookie, also no more carpet  .

I was doing some work on the saggy and came across a funny situation and I needed to bring it up. It is apparent that there is a bearing in the axle housing on the driver side but not the passenger side, what is the deal here. Is it possible to place a bearing on the passenger side?

Are you talking about the spindle bearing for the outer axle shaft?
It was my understanding (not sure from where) that the is not one on the drivers side and there is one on the passenger side.

Yeah, as far as I know Disco axles needed a bearing in the housing to support the shaft when it is disconnected. Non-Disco axles do not have an issue as the other side of the shaft is supported at all times.

I have been hoarding and ordering some stuff to do a top-end rebuild on the original engine. I pulled the heads of yesterday and I guess that the motor has had a rebuild at some point... there is a 30 stamped on the top of the pistons. I am guessing that this means it had been bored .30 over? So far on the way are new sets of rockers, bridges, RV cam, lifters, push rods, Edlebrock intake, Victor Reinz gasket kit and more to be collected in this process. I have one question seeing that this is my first engine re-build, is it a detremental requirement to degree the cam?

Thanks for the help so far folks.

Well it's been a long time since last update so here is whats current....

Ouray Co.
Image

Been driving it almost daily and did a few upgrades to this old beast. Took it to Ouray and found out that it vapour locks pretty easily after 6K'. It does not overheat but it sure cooks the fuel in the bowl.

I did the H4 upgrade along with Serehill's harness modification, now I can see clearly at night now. Also did seals and bearings up front, u-joints and brakes. We took it on a run over the holiday and it made me see there are still things that needs to be addressed: (1) Carb spacer (2) E. Fuel pump (3) Rock Sliders (4) Lift (5) lockers (6)more to be listed

Tucson Run

Well I guess after wheeling it and seeing how tight the trails can get some future mods are going the put off ( I want to wheel the crap out of this thing :fsj: ).

Waiting for a new raiator to arrive, th enew one leaks from the drain lug weld.

I know it looks easy when I do it but...
want to wheel the crap out of this thing
Careful what you wish for Martin.
I got 10K (and probably way more than 3000 hours labor) into my POS and it's only worth 2K dead or alive.
Keep it simple, stick with the plan.

Tad, I guess I have not crossed that bridge yet. But if I get there and there is no complaining from the wife I guess it is all good.

Steve, that is what I would like to do but flexing out here I may need to be like the big boys. I may have to get a new waggy. :D

Serehill, it is coming along and hopefully if things go well I will be able to hit bigger rocks in time for Santa :fsj:

I still think 2-3 inch lift and a locker, your rig looks good.
