Dana 44 marked with Ratio?

Post by NorthGaAire »

I have a 78 Cherokee - 4spd, 360 with Dana 44 axles.

The specifications say it could have 3.07 (STD) or 3.54 (OPT) ratio axles.

Is the ratio marked anywhere on the axle?

Thx.

There was a tag from the factory held by some of the differential cover bolts which gave the number of teeth on the pinion and ring gear. This is how you calculate the ratio.

To my knowledge, all T18a equipped Cherokee's had 3.54 gears.

If the tag is gone, the tooth count is stamped into the edge of the ring gear. "41 11" is 41/11 = 3.73 for example.

The tag should have the ratio tooth counts, and Jeep PN.
