Interior A/C hookup?

Post by mx71 »

I finally got the interior a/c installed after some previous owner removed all the interior stuff. The blue and red wires for the unit obviously must plug in to the fuse panel, but the plugs aren't compatible. The unit is from a 78 and mine is a 79, could that be why? If not, is there a fuse that's supposed to go in between the panel and the unit that I'm missing? Does anyone have a picture of the fuse panel with the a/c stuff plugged in? I can't find on on google.

Also, does the turning on of the blower initiate the turning on of the compressor? If so, mine doesn't seem to be working. Is the wire on the compressor a ground that's supposed to magnetically pull in the clutch?

TIA

Compressor clutch wire gets 12v to energize the clutch. The case itself is the ground.

Give me an e-mail address or a phone number and I'll send you a pic. It's to much work to post a pic. on this site.

As I remember it pulling the unit out of a 79, the hot wire connects directly to the fuse panel. there is a tab in the panel itself.

The brown wire goes to the compressor , it is a hot wire.

This site is valuable:

The AC compressor power is marked 50 Brown 16 (16 ga wire)
I have not found the control wiring for the under dash AC unit. It must be buried somewhere else. The heat/defrost controls are different from the AC controls. They are totally separate systems. That said, you can run heat to defrost the windshiel and run the AC at the same time.

OK, there is more on air conditioning in section 3E in the TSM here:

Electrical is kind of vague though.

Yeah I couldn't find anything in there. I guess I'm wondering if the fuse panel plugs on a 78 are different than 79, and should I just make something work. I don't want to cut it if I don't have to.
