Will an 88 GW window and regulator fit/work on a 69 Wagoneer ?

Post by candymancan »

Have a shop who is supposedly restoring Kaisers Grandsons 69 Wagoneer, who purchased the tailgate regulator from 88 from me, i drove up there and saw the wagoneer and took pics and talked to the guys about it and they asked if i could get other parts for them as its really hard to find any, i said ill try my best.

They need the drivers side window retaining clips for the regulator and im unsure what they mean by that, but my question is, a 69 and 88 the side windows should be exactly the same correct ? Couldnt i just pull the window from an 88 i know of, the regulator/motor should be just bolt right up am i right ? Im pretty sure all the bolt holes are identical from all years, I mean The rear regulator for tailgate matched all the bolt holes.

Lemme know, im trying to help these guys on this project but also making some money doing this. So before i give them a quote on this and actually pull all this outa the door i need to know if itll work. I dont care about the plugs being different all i care about is if the windows are the same and the regulator will bolt up to the 69 from the 88. They can figure out the wiring themselves

the glass part was thicker in 69, so the 88 glass may rattle in the slides. The 88 regulator being electric is not the same beast as the manual regulator.
Installing the whole electric motor and regulator should not be too difficult, they will have to drill some holes to mount the electric regulator.
I did the opposite on a 86 rear door, I installed a manual regulator into an electric door, all the holes for the manual were present, the only issue was to shorten the length of the manual regulator to allow the electric glass full open and full close, it would have been smarter to install wires to power the electric motor on the 74.

'69 & '88 are totally different animals.

Glass is completely different. Different thickness, tint, and bottom is flat on early or non power windows.
Clips are available from BJ's and probably any good outfit that sells automotive hardware. Same ones as used on tailgate reg. lift arms.

you can unglue the glass from the metal bracket... get another metal bracket , but bj's is not carrying the metal bracket anymore... time for metal work or use a tailgate channel cut to fit....

As for the washer reservoir, it is a pain, when the washer pump stops working the replacement pump does not have the right size and it is a flipping headache to do a pump swap. The earlier washer reservoir are easier, the pump is outside, but most of them have plastic failure, and because of the layout, it is a tough game to find some replacement... I was lucky to find a newer washer at the junkyard for the 85, for the 74 I silicone the area of separation... still holding up after 15 years...

yea but a 74-91 use those square tanks, they make new ones and they are everywhere, the 69 uses a deep tank
