I just did some maintenance and I still cant get my reverse lights to work. I have even replacd the Neutral safety switch. Any ideas on what to do next?
First, unplug the NSS and jumper the 2 outside wires together of the 3 (center one grounds the solenoid). If the backup lights come on, the trans internal plastic "horseshoe" piece on the valvebody needs replacing.

Yes. I said "They are on '80 up automatics. The NSS has reverse lights and park/neutral safety switch combined." which means it's screwed into the trans on the left side just about half way along the pan. This pic is a 999 case from a '99 Wrangler I'm selling but basically the same as the 727.
The plastic piece inside the NSS rides on is slightly bigger in the 727s, but this gives you an idea how it works.
When the plastic breaks, the NSS no longer works correctly. I have seen LOTS of older Mopars where they had to put it in neutral to get it to start and the reverse lights come on in drive because that plastic bit broke. (usually after clobbering the trans pan on a speed bump or something. Doesn't even have to be enough to dent the pan!)
i'm just gonna throw out the obvious, but did you replace the bulbs? when mine didnt work, i got so worked up by the threads that i assumed it was going to be something complicated. two new bulbs later i had reverse lights

Thanks for clarification. Some how I thought you were talking about the NSS on the steering column which did not jive. I have never called the switch on the 727 a NSS is probably why. Back in 2002 when Jeepstress busted my front drive shaft, that pig tail got ripped off the Jeep. Who needs back up lights any way? What is behind me is of little concern. And I can start it in any gear. Screw that NSS.
I have never had reverse lights, I have never missed having them.

That could be a cup tree holder for the GW. Put a couple of spikes on there and set some cups on it and there
you are a "Cup Tree Holder"

See Tad you have an advantage, no one will run over you they just go under.
I did notice that the old NSS was stuck (in). I may have messed up a ground or something in the tailgate. I will get back in there and check and I will also redo the trailer harness soon too, it's just a mess of wires hanging out the back.
Flint, I would take Jerry's invention and put it in the vendors section, I just hope you only make one of them. It could be more expensive for you to duplicate .
