Early reverse lamps

Post by Rory »

Does anyone have a source for the early reverse lamp lenses? Looking for the round ones that aren't nearly as common. I found ones listed for 50s and 60s CJs that look the same but haven't been able to confirm. 59 Ford ones are also suspiciously similar. If I can't find any info I may just order the CJ ones and cross my fingers...

Are these the beehive lenses? If so, should be the same. If it's a square lens, it's unique to the FSJ AFAIK.

I think you'll just have to cross your fingers and try it. Walck's seems to have a good selection.
Are you running your reverse lamps through a toggle switch, or do you have the switch on the column? Every other light on my truck works except the reverse lights. Haven't really gotten into it yet, but I have a suspicion its that column mounted switch.

Is this the clear beehive lens?

There is a J-Series parts book on the Tom Collins site. Look up the Jeep PN and compare it to the part number of what the aftermarket sellers have.

Yeah, the beehives. I'll check the Tom Collins site, just thought it odd that nobody lists these under Wagoneers. I'm pretty sure at this point that the only difference from the CJ ones is the angled base piece.

I can look it up for you when I get home, if that will help. 99% sure all these lamps are the same, and the lack of Wagoneer coverage is just an oversight.

I think you're right tgreese. I just found the J-series parts book. Wagoneer shows the square style while pre '72 Townside truck has a round one. I'll compare part numbers later. Once I order something I'll make sure to post back here with what I find.

They are the same as CJ reverse lamps with the sole exception of the rubber base. Jeep changed connector styles a couple of times though.

Brly, I don't know if the lights actually worked. I'm going from a column shifted manual to a floor shifted automatic so I'll be making some kind of bracket and linkage for a neutral safety/reverse lamp switch. I plan on using one of the column mount style switches since they're cheap and easily sourced.

Thanks Rory. Dug into things tonight and found that the wires were disconnected from the switch. The switch worked when I tested it with a meter and I managed to find the wire that ran all the way to rear lights under the dash. Just had to run a power wire to the switch, put new bulbs in and everything works.
I'll probably pick up some of the lenses you're getting. Mine are in once piece, but they're cracked and look pretty bad.

The lenses are Omix PN 12405.04, they have them on Rockauto.

Image Received the Omix lenses yesterday, impressed with the quality. Thick plastic that looks like glass... glorious.
