can you stain the wood outline ?

Post by candymancan »

I was wondering if its possible to stain the plastic outline trim ? as i was washing my Jeep the rear tailgate outline i noticed is pretty much one solid ugly color now. I was wondering if some kind of dye or heck even a wood stain on the outlines would work to make it look more woody of not that tan color it gets when its original color is gone

Possibly a watered down paint would possibly work. A thick stain with a lacquer could also work. Avoid danish oil type stains as they won't adhere to the plastic at all.

You could employ this technique to freshen up the trim.

Very neat. I like!

What I use is acrylic paint from the art store, I mix burn sienna and forgot the other earth tone to match the oak (we already have the yellow background), and with a the cheap brush from HF that is sold to applying grease or whatever, put some streaks, it is not as fancy as the video, but it is a good 5 footer. I do the same for the wood panels, doing touch ups where the wood has peeled off, not perfect, but the waggy is far from perfect too, it last about 3 to 5 years...

Yea thats exactly what i want to do except keep the outline lighter then the middle like it originally was.. but still keep it looking like wood and not an obviously plastic.

I am thinking about using a brick pattern since my Wag really doesn't want to be a woody. :D
