Hi, I'm Bill, and I'm adicted to all things mechanical

Post by ProTouring442 »

And so it goes...

So I'm the "New Guy." I'm on IFSJA too, so some here may know me already.

In addition to my FSJ, I am also building a Pro-Touring style 1972 Olds 442 convertible. That one is getting an IRS, 454 with port injection, Richmond 5-speed, and myriad other modifications.

Other motorized items around the house are my wife's SLK230 (she looks cute cruising with the top down), a 1993 Suzuki VX800 (with custom exhaust and tank), a 1976 KZ750 twin (Café Racer), and a 1969 Triumph Bonneville (with a ton of custom bits, but made to look as though it "could have come that way").

So to my Jeep...

It's a 1989 Grand Wagoneer. One dent, and zero rust!

Plans include:

-Adapting the integrated A/C-Heat from a 1970s Chevy truck.
-Ford Thunderbird reclining seats
-Heated seats
-Custom floor console
-Custom overhead console
-Custom dash w/ a double DIN stereo/GPS, full instrumentation, CB, Scanner, HAM?, Compass
-Repaint w/wide track fenders and rear flares.

And much, much more.

I am also currently considering a Votec 4.8/4L70E.

A bit more stuff...

Here's my old ASC/McLaren. It was an '89, and the only "Hot Yellow" ASC built that year (out of 250 total)

The '56 BelAir my father and I built. He's driven it to Florida, Maryland, Ohio, and Tennessee. LT-4/700R4 with Cruise, tilt, power seats, power windows, power vent windows, power locks, power trunk release/pull down, front frame from a '79 Firebird, and a lot more.

Our old Turbo Coupe.

E34 M5 actually. It is mine... sort of... maybe...

The left rear wheel came off recently (the result of a tire shop failing to tighten the lugs), and the insurance company and the body shop are debating whether or not it will be a total. We shall see...

Thanks! My father and I embarked upon that project at the perfect time. My parent and I still all lived in Maryland, he had yet to retire, and we had the time to work together on it. It was a wonderful, though sometimes infuriating, four years! Shortly after its completion, we took it to a Classic Chevy National Show, and it took 1st place in '56 Modified, with a Platinum Certificate to boot! One proud day for sure!

I am extremely proud to have been able to spend the time with him, working nearly every weekend together. That car is most definitely the result of two idiots challenging each other into finding ways to make this or that idea work! I sincerely hope that when my parent pass away, there will be little left to inherit. I hope they are able to spend most of their money enjoying life and each other. But I have let them know I would love to have that '56. It is a time I will treasure.

My dad has now decided that he isn't yet ready to retire from the world of restification, and has taken on a new project. He recently purchased a 1959 Impala hardtop, and in pretty well engulfed in its restoration/modification. He bought the car out of California, and it's about as rust free as can be. Thus far he has restored the frame, polished all the stainless, designed a center console, and fitted the integrated A/C-heat system from a 70s F-body (Firebird/Camaro). We're in the process of finding an LS2 or LS3 (L99 really) for it. Insanity reigns supreme!

Hey Bill! Your pics are funny. They don't all come up for me, but some do, and it's not always the same ones that come up. Everytime some or all of your pics just say "Image" where the pic is supposed to be. I know this is on my end, since different pics show every time I open this thread, but I wanted to let you know I look forward to seeing ALL of them eventually if I haven't already. It's hard to keep track, haha! The ASC McLaren is the one I'm looking forward too the most!
