Mostly to protect the hoods paint. When the hood gets really hot, it will start to cook the paint and over time will cause the paint to start to peel.

Knocks down a fair bit of noise too, which is good if you're into the whole quiet thing.

Juat gatta figure out what glue to use. Im thinking of maybe using a contact cement from dap.. Have to wait till it warms up though. 20-30s is too cold for glues

Most manufacturers offered hood insulation as a part of a quiet insulation package to make the car quieter. I suppose it deadened underhood noise.

My 1977 AMC Hornet never had hood insulation originally, it was optional. It still has the original paint on the hood with no heat damage, but then again it is baked acrylic enamel which is practically bulletproof anyway. I put insulation on it and it did make the car quieter.

So paint protection? Maybe. Sound deadening? Probably.

Well i put it on.. was 65f today. I used the weldwood contact cement that i used when i put on my vinyl headliner. Its high heat resistant

Looks good i think.. Not a fan of the fiberglass as its all in my hands lol but whatever.. 20$ is cheap for newish insulation vs 50 plus 15 for shipping
