Post by rubix2003 »

hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself . i bought a 1986 J20 last summer. great truck for work (construction -carpentry) especially with the utility bed. i got it with about 90,000 miles on it . very little rust , most on the bottom edges of the bed . its has a 360 -727 - NP 208. i have been a jeep person all my life . drove a 1985 waggy for a few yrs when i first started driving , then owned mostly cj-7.-5, tj , xj s.

so a couple months ago on the way home from work in a wicked down pour, i crashed. came around a left hand downhill curve. the ass-end lifted up and swung out on me , i tried like hell to get her to come back around but ended up sliding into to opposite lane and crushing a little honda. luckly everyone walked away , but my truck took a big hit . drivers fender, rad valance , grill support, left knuckle , bent shock tower, crack transfer case and a busted windshield. (im sure there will be a few more issues)

Glad everyone came out ok on that.
You know it's a good hit when you break a steering knuckle.
Those are pretty stout and for the most part pretty well protected.

Hate to see the Honda. Hope you plan on fixing it up. Looks to be in great shape otherwise.

Thanks everyone, im glad everyone was ok too. worst accident i have ever been in .

i'm defiantly rebuilding . i already repaired the knuckle and removed plow , grill and valience.

still need the drivers side leaf spring,transfer-case, fender, rad support and valence . got a great bumper from the PO , so i may sell that to fund the repairs.
what do you guys think its worth ? also have a meyer plow frame i'm thinking of selling and even the bench seat . just not sure what its all worth , not used to dealing in FSJ parts ,

the honda got munched, all the air bags went off. my wheel was cut when i made contact , so i think that helped the knuckle break a little easier. the plow frame is unbelievable straight . i think it saved my frame from getting bent in .

Welcome to the site! Glad you're ok, and even with the damage, that's a good looking truck.

Glad you decided to rebuild/repair.

First picture, awesome. Then OUCHY, my eyes! Glad it was not worse. Some Hondas just need a good bashing. Welcome to the net and good luck on the rebuild.

I saw the post on the mother board, glad everyone is safe. It is a beautiful truck, I had to add my own service bed. Mines not near as pretty as yours, even munched. #-o

I've never actually seen a late model J20 with a utility bed. Looks amazing, glad you're fixing it!

Coming along :)

Did you put the body lift on the bed? Because it will lower your payload capacity.

i did not body lift the bed , i have other plans for that down the road. the utility bed is pretty high up near the back window , now i can actually see out the back.

for the interior i used the dupli-color vinyl and fabric coating , cleaned every thing really well and applied a few coats . we will see how long it will last.

this is the good side of the body mounts . the front drivers side is a little twisted . does any one know what the distance from the frame weld out to the center of the bolt hole in the frame body mount ? need to weld some plates on and my body is pushed over from the accident , i want to try and get it as close as i can back to center

I measured my bare 1981 frame and it looks like the magic number is 4.125"
