Roof Rack and Winch for Cherokee SJ?

Post by Santeh »

Hello all,

I was looking to upgrade my roof rack as well as add a winch to my 1978 Jeep Cherokee SJ and was curious what others who have done the same might recommend?

On the roof rack, the only one I was able to find that is made directly for an SUV like the Cherokee SJ is this one for BJ's Off-Road:

Yet $850 for a roof rack seemed a little pricey so I thought I would ask.

As for winches, I like this one as I only have a 2" lift on the SUV but I am unsure if there might be a better option:

The only addition to the grill guard is that I would like to add some lights (such as these: http://www.autoanything.com/lights/65A3219A0A0.aspx ).

Thanks all for your thoughts!

Tad, on the site used to make roof rack assemblies but I am not sure if he is still doing it. IFIRC he is also the one that is making the structural support part. Contact him and he will let you know what he is still doing.

Other than BJs we don't have many options other than having custom bumpers and such made. I had one made locally for my 78 Cherokee. By the time I bought one from BJs and had it shipped I was in the custom ballpark price range. I had mine made for a winch and lights. I would attach a picture but photobucket has us all screwed.

Edit: Signed up for a Flickr account. Now to see if I can make it work.

Edit 2: Well what do you know. I did it. LOL
