Hello everyone,
my son just bought his first vehicle, a 1985 wagoneer. It has a rebuilt engine, new transfer case, and rebuilt transmission all with about 9000 miles since the work was done. Also a new set of stock size good year wranglers. He paid 1400 for it and has a pretty good first vehicle. It does have some of the expected bugs. Some power windows are not working, the rear window key switch is dead, and the heater wont stay on defrost. We are eager to start working on it and making it even better.
what do you guys think of the price we paid was that a decent deal? Any advice on things i should check on the vehicle would be helpful this is my first jeep and first amc experience.
I almost forgot to add it has the 360 engine and select trac system.
Has 159,000 miles on it and the front end has a bit of wander at speed. Other wise it runs and drives great. starts right up on cold wyoming mornings , drinks lots of gas .
I havnt checked the front end too close yet. I assume steering gear just like my old chevy and ford trucks did.
It also has leaks on about every system that takes fluid, nothing major just seeping. i will get on that job asap.
My son is out at work with it, i will get more photos of the few rust spots and more angles soon.

A first Jeep is a magical thing, congratulations! And welcome.

2006 LJ - spacers, 33's, pocket flairs, dents, and too much courage
1973 Wagoneer - still not sure why, but since it's here it's going to be cool.
Looks sharp, a bit of rust on the quarter panel, usual for water sitting there, you need to poke the dirt out of the drain opening... there is a pict somewhere.
You want to make sure that no rust of liquid is being soaked around the wheel wells, lift the carpet and check, it may come from the leaky cowl under the fresh air vent between the windshield wipers.... I used magnetic vent cover cut with scissors to fit the opening to prevent any water from coming in. The next culprit are the rubber plugs for the roof rack, they dry and let water in, you will notice stains on the headliner. You can find them at the better hardware store, or remove and plug the large holes with a quarter or those punch out plugs from the electrical utility box and some 5 min marine epoxy, 5 min JB weld....to attached them
As rebuilt, if it sounds good, and does not smoke blue on restart... this is half the job.
Cheers,
Yes it does not come with the free tanker truck,
