Clean looking rig but since it was owned by a Marine I would inspect the interior for DNA contamination :P

I have a spare working motor. Its not hard to fix that. The bubbly rust is kinda common on vehicles that have been repainted poorly. Mine has that in some spots that i had to fix..

Looking for 80-91 Wagoneer....

Post by cpittman428 »

I got a quick look at this ad before the server stopped responding. Every time I try to look at the ad I get an error message. From what I saw it seemed pretty nice. If there are no hidden secrets, as already mentioned, and you think I could get it to pass emissions/anyone has spare emissions parts to put on I may be able to talk my better half into considering it. She was pretty turned off to the one in Denver once she learned about the emissions issues. We had to sell my Scrambler when we moved here from IL because of an "illegal swap" per CO emissions standards. Image (CO says you can't swap an older engine into a newer vehicle and I bought this 84 with a 75 Chevy 350 already in it). I know that emissions can get kinda tricky with some of these Wagoneers (as I've read on this forum) but I'm willing to deal with the headache a bit if I can locate someone who is good at tuning/adjusting to get older rigs to pass. There is a 4x4 shop here in Fort Collins that has worked on my XJ (that I'll be selling once I find a Wagoneer) that claims they can usually get any vehicle to pass.

Also I'm going to be driving back to IL at the end of this week to visit family. I would normally take I-80 because it's a more direct route to my hometown but I could take I-70 to get me through Kansas City (if that's where this Jeep is actually at) to take a look. Anyone else close to Kansas City?

One way around the emissions issue is to purchase and install the Howell EFI kit. It is 50-states certified, and you can eliminate a lot of the extra plumbing and devices and still be compliant. Comes with a CARB (California Air Resources Board) sticker for your emissions referee. About $1500.

http://howellefi.com/pdfs/AMC_V8_TBI_in ... update.pdf

Never mind - it only covers through 1981. I had thought is covers all years for the 360, but it does not.

BJ's website shows it covering all AMC V8.

Anyone in Colorado front range emissions area have experience with this kit?

You could talk to a emissions referee and see if that kit would work. I suspect they've seen it before. If so, it's a fairly easy to install.

FWIW, I have a non-CRB certified TBI on my FSJ and no one cares. I have all my emissions equipment (cat, air injection tubes, air pump, vacuum advance, EGR) visible on my engine. They don't stare at the engine other than to hook up the tach probe on the distributor and probably verify the that the air pump is present.

With a Edlebrock Performer non-EGR intake, I would get a Fast Pass on the IM240 test. With the stock manifold and non-working EGR, it passes, but I have high NOx that is just under the limit.

It fits through 1991, but the executive order only covers through 1981.

If you can find one and the shop in FC can't get it to pass, contact Code 4x4 in western CO. Dave, who now owns Code, used to run a shop called Wagons west (I think that's the name). They did the motor swap on my Scrambler and it looked factory (360 replaced the 4.2). Dave is also kind of a guru with carburetors. That thing was dialed in tight for the elevation and I have a stack of passed emissions papers to prove it. Image

Still not able to view this... Image Doesn't matter if I try through this link, pasting it in the browser, or checking on my CL app Image... wondering if it's just Craigslist. If anyone has the info/contact and wants to pass it along I'd like to make contact and see if I can go look on my way to IL.

I've been in contact with the owner of the 84 in CO springs. Just got a very rapid response from the one in KCMO area. He said that the emissions components were gone when he bought it. "No rust underneath" but a few small spots starting around windows. AC not working since replacing the AC compressor and cruise doesn't work.
I'm not concerned with the AC or cruise at the moment. Friggin emissions! I suppose I could call an emissions referee and see if the Howell kit would work and what else I would need. That's going to push the limits of my budget most likely if I have to pay full price.
