So I just had my engine rebuilt and it sounds terrific!!! One question tho: I am experiencing late shifting to both second and third gears. No slipping, and the fluid looks good and where it should be. Any clue as to what is happening? Shifting to second isn't too bad, but shifting to third seems to take a lot longer than it should. I actually like the longer pulls in each gear (1 and 2) but would rather it shift "right".
Sounds like The kick down linkage is out of adjustment.
Should be one bolt to loosen the clamp that holds the (adjustable slide fork?) With white plastic bushing in it attached to carb linkage.
Adjust in small amounts till it feels right. Obviously if it doesn't improve or it gets worse repeat adjustment in oposit direction.
Thanks! So in the meantime while I'm breaking in the rebuilt engine, am I doing any harm to either engine or trans by driving it with the delayed shifting? It doesn't have a tach, but I doubt it is over-revving.
Yeah Guys, I'm not looking to High Jack the thread but I have the opposite issue with the 1-2 shift. It shifts out of 1 st gear too soon and wont return to 1st until I stop. I installed a Trans-Go shift kit and adjusted the TV for a good 2-3 shift under load but haven't been able to get the 1-2 shift correct. It had the same issue before the TG was installed. Is there a spring or adjustment for the 1-2?
Thanks fellas, I've scheduled the Jeep to go to the mechanic who did the buttoning up process. I think this is covered stuff since they obviously put it all back together again.
Told them that it is either a spring or rod (as debated above)... they should know what to do.
