I was tired of holding cups in my lap so I got to looking around the garage. For something that would work. I don't like the plastic crap at the auto parts stores.
Hey that unused oil filter, that goes to who knows what, is about the right shape. Out comes the bandsaw and drill. Then a little vacuum hose to cover the rough edge. Perfect!!! 30 minutes work and I had everything laying around the garage
.
Cut just under the lip with a bandsaw
I bent this framing tie
the sticker on the framing tie
a few bolts through the framing tie and a couple self drilling screws into the floor
time for some Popeyes.

Make sure to post a pic. Id love to see how yours turn out. I wanted to keep the lip at the top of the filter but i didnt have a hole saw the right size to cut it that way so i chopped with a band saw. I think it would loo much better and wouldn't need the vaccum hose if it cloud be cut form the end with a hole saw.

Those work great on the front of ammo cans when making center consoles. I have one in the YJ Mutt.
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.

Dang, man. I've opened this thread probably 5 times since I posted in it, and the more I look at it the more I want to steal your idea! Thanks again for posting this. I'm switching from a bench to buckets and building a cooler holder/carseat mount for the center, but once I figure it all out and build it I'll see how to follow your lead.
