Sneaky leak

Post by Goony »

My jeep leaks oil when it gets up to operating temperature. The oil pools up on the block next to where the distributor is. I thought it might be my intake manifold that i put on so i took it off and did the whole process again. But after this i still had the same leak. What could this be? Im thinking that i dont need oil changes anymore since its basically a long term oil change with me adding some every week or so. :D

If you're certain it's not coming from the intakes front seal, then more than likely the leak is coming from the base of the distributor where it enters the engine block, should be an O-ring there, make sure it's not cracked or worn down to nothing. You'll of course have to pull the distributor, so be sure to reference exactly where the distributor body is and the position of the rotor too.

But the good news is that your distributor is getting a good flow of oil.

Not to mention the antirust effects of constant oiling.

Just be sure it isn't coming from the corner of the valve cover gasket. The "2 up, 5 down" bolt pattern has to be the worst idea ever.
