June 29th Storm - Ohio

Post by Rockwell B1 »

It is still really hot here (90+ still) but yesterday afternoon we had one heck of a storm blow through and cooled things off to about 68 for a few hours. I was out of town with the Jeep so it didn't have to suffer through the worst of it at least, but the winds we got where I was were still extremely strong. Power lines, poles, trees, barns, etc... needless to say there is a ton of damage. But where home is we got golf ball size hail...

(My sister got this pic with her phone out the backdoor)

And here is the aftermath on our house, and every other house in our subdivision/area... (if pics are too large I'll change them, damage shows better bigger)

I'm lucky the truck was not at home as it sits out, but because our garage door has been broken and we have not gotten around to putting the new one up because of heat, my sister has to leave her car out too. I don't have any pics but her '00 Eclipse got hammered, it isn't pretty.

Dang, that is harsh. How old is that vinyl siding?

House was built in '05, so it is pretty baked from the sun after 7 years.

7 years is not old for that type of siding. Hopefully your guys' home owner insurance covers all that. Thats going to take quite a bit of work to fix :/

I worked with vinyl siding in the early 70s and back then is was junk compared to the products today. I have wondered how well it holds up to the baking. I hope your insurance treats you right.

Sorry to see that much damage but hail can be harsh.
I was in Hobbs NM once and thought I was going to loose a windshield.

Yup, this same storm damaged a lot of NE Indiana.
LOTS of trees down everywhere.

As I write this, I understand that nearly 50% of Allen County Indiana is without power.

Luckily, we are fine, we have power and we suffered no damage.
