161hp and 270ft lbs will roll a waggy... and get 30 mpg while doing it! But bumping the boost and fuel a bit will get you 450ft lbs and 250 hp.... that would be fun.

The NVH from a 4-cylinder diesel in old rigs like these will be the most unpleasant experience you've ever had.
I 100% agree when it comes to something like a 4BT. But the new 2.5L actually had NVH as a consideration when designing it. It is leaps and bounds better than a 4BT is.
Im planning on investing in Cummins Repower projects at my shop. All the reports are putting MPG in a TJ around 25/26. So, a FSJ will likely get 20/22MPG if geared correctly. There is a company that is supplying a PiggyBack programmer that boost power up to 30% [210hp/370lbs]. Potentially, with a little/juice-programing the engine would be fine in 1/2 ton F100/C10/J10/J20.
