Sunroof 'sploded

Post by az chip »

Driving down the highway at night, sunroof in my DD Suburban goes off like a gunshot. Excuse me while I change pants. New one installed is 950. Do it myself 390. Not hard to decide that one. Image

Holy schmoly! Yeah, I'd need some fresh skivvies if that happened right over my head. Sucks about the cost (even DIY) but glad it didn't rain down on you!

YIKES! I'd have definitely let a little brown out in that circumstance.

Got the old one out without dropping a single piece of glass. Installed new one and wife helped me adjust.

Is that the reflection of the broken one in the new one?

LOL. No. This is Arizona. That is my front yard rocks. Very easy to maintain.

I hope you avoid it as well. At least while driving. You think you are calm, cool, and collected. Then, you have a bacon stripe.

Youre lucky it didnt shatter inside the vehicle.. Been to plenty of Junkyards with shattered sunroofs and lemme tell ya it aint like the movies.. those little shards of glass can make ya bleed like mad.

I read that article and i will agree with a manufacturer defect.. However i call BULLDUST on the their reasoning for CURVED sunroofs lol and taking impacts... Have you actually tried to break car glass ? I have thrown a 10lbs brake rotor at a car window as hard as i could and it bounced off like a trampoline 4 times before i finally broke it....

My 5.9 ZJ's sunroof track broke stuck tilted up 5 years ago.. It was about to rain so i stood on the rocker panel holding onto the roof rack and took my fist and pounded the crap out of the sunroof glass as hard as i could until it finally broke the cable and went down... So yea BS

Instead of throwing a brake rotor at the glass use a center punch and tap it with a hammer.

Reminds me of a movie. Guys were trying to break a display case in a museum. The guy's going all over the glass tapping it saying something to the effect of you just have to find the right spot and it'll break.

Finally gets fed up and in frustration throws a rag on it and it shatters.
