2012 powerstroke DPF problems

Post by Grand_Wag_85 »

I need some advice for a newer (6.7?) Power Stroke diesel. My brother has a 2012 F350 and it keeps going into limp mode. With no warning at 75MPH on the HWY in the left lane and overtaking another vehicle it will go into limp mode which locks the truck to idle speed. When it kicks on the trans will downshift to get the speed down as fast as possible.

It's been to Ford several times and they can't figure it out. Anything that can be done to fix it without installing a delete kit? So far none of the bottled fixes you pour into the tank have worked.

Thanks

How many miles, have they cleaned it, any codes, and yes does it run DEF? We deal with these daily on big trucks so hopefully get you some answers, just won't be always able to respond instantly.

107, seems pretty light for cleaning. the system itself is fairly simple, but sometimes can be a bitch to diagnosis. I wouldn't put any bottle treatments of anything in it other than DEF, that is the bottle treatment. So basically you have an injector, pump, Nox sensors, the filter. It gets more complicated from there dependent upon the manufacturer. No reason Ford can't diagnose, something odd about that. Our biggest failures are typically, dirty, bad DPF, bad Nox sensors, bad injector.

Codes:

P0401
P208A or 20BA(?)
P2033
P2479
P0231
P242A

The dealers seem more interested in what other work they can sell us. Last time it went into Ford it was a fiasco. The truck sat for a week because they don't have a diesel tech, even though they claimed to be the leading Ford diesel shop in the area when it got towed in.

When they finally got it in they took it upon themselves to do a safety check and refused to do anything else until the rear brake pads and uneven tire wear were addressed. So $150 just to get them to say it needs $1100 in work before they look at the motor. By then it sat long enough that "We couldn't get it to act up."

I hate dealers! Thankfully it's not my truck!!

Well, I can't do anything with the codes, maybe Google and let me know. I would definitely find a different shop. All it basically is, is a glorified catalytic converter. I would try a local diesel shop that's well trusted.

Well Google says, egr, ecm, egt, and fuel pump. Sounds like you have multiple issues, nonprofessionally, and with full disclaimer for no responsiblity, I may start with the ecm, and cleaning the egr valve.
