Like the new Photobucket?

Post by REDONE »

http://www.denverpost.com/2017/07/06/ph ... -charging/

Take a look at who owns them! That's how they know you'll pay that free-market capitalist $400, because this is America. While complaining is easy, actually changing takes work. Fork it over, turn on your favorite flavor of fake news, and blame it all on the other side.

I'm still pretty happy with imgur, but won't hesitate to dump them like a rock too. I got rid of photobucket when they started hiding commercials for cheetos in with my pics. I remember, I'd look at a pic and be like "I don't recognize those socks, or the TV behind them! Who's living room is that?". I'd click the pic for inspection and BAM! IT'S A TRAP! Cheetos commercial hijacks my computer and won't stop until it's done! If all you guys that have photobucket tolerated THAT nonsense, why wouldn't you pay $400, too?

Way cheaper to just have your own hosting for $6 a month than pay photobucket.

On my service for this forum I have 100GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth, and I think its like 9 bucks a month. WAY less than $400 a year!!!

I'm seriously considering the option. I mean, if photobucket survives this, in any way, others will follow. Already you can't see other peoples google images or facebook photos unless you're logged into an account for that service in the background. I think they all know they can charge money, PB just happened to go first and aim high.

At the same time, once they find that dollar figure, all those hosting providers will look to monetize your photos, too. And then you'll be paying, but still have to deal with banner ads, until one day, THEY want $400 for you to use your own pictures. On the plus side, maybe it will motivate us to all meet at Dairy Queen once a month to show eachother pictures since we can't afford to do it on the internet anymore!

That's funny!

Seriously they aimed too high with a $399 yearly fee. And the crap about heavy users is BS. My BB images don't get that many hits.
But it is captialism and they do have a right to change their business model and see how the market reacts. Like it has been mentioned, people will look for alternatives.

A feature I would have liked is the ability to see what photos are getting hit from what sites and the number of hits. I would have delete some 'extras' if I knew they were never getting any view or, most likely, I never linked to them.

When I move my plan is to create a 'database' in a program I found titled 'excel'. I am manually going to keep track of where I posted which photos. Or if the site I chose next will allow me to organize or tag the pictures in a way I can keep track that would be cool. If you all know of any let tell me please.

Facebook has crippled Forums like this which has cut into Photobuckets profit margin. So they have to resort to Ransomware. I will Facebook till the next "greatest thing" comes around.

I don't understand this. I've never experienced stuff hidden in my pichers. Just too many ads. Then came the big floaty window that stayed centered in the screen. Pardon my lack of the proper nomenclature.

I had no problem paying the minimum to get rid of that stuff. It aint worth $400, though. I never liked their format but I liked the editing. Didn't have that on my computer. The other ones I played with before paying up didn't seem to have it.

If it wasn't a picture of a car I wouldn't click on it.
And I ended up using ad-blocker because there were so MANY ads. I can tollerate a handful but it was rediculous and the ads loaded first.

I just went there with Chrome and ad-blocker. 67 ads blocked on initial load. I tried with IE and no block and it took forever and there were two pop up ads I had to click close on.

I have been using them since about 05. The real bad part is that at the moment, I just don't have time to deal with this. I'm so glad they warned us...

Once I started noticing all the trouble and after searching it online, I went and checked my threads and so far all my pictures are still there too.
Now a couple years ago (before I was using google chrome and adblock), I "upgraded" to the ad free photobucket. It is still active, so I wander if that has something to do with it? I know I will not be renewing it this time and will be dropping photobucket completely once the issue hits me.
