Road Trip!

Post by Stuka »

So, this in no way involves my Jeeps (which is why this is in general), but figured some of you may enjoy some of the photos. This past weekend went on a trip over Sonora Pass to Topaz Lake in Nevada in my Mustang. Amazing drive, that road is so much fun to drive on. And got some awesome photos too!

There was a massive amount of snow runoff, as can be seen in one of the photos below. One road was actually flooded, and had to drive through far more wanter than I wanted too in my car. In the morning that flooding was only an inch or two deep. But by the after noon on our way home it was almost a foot.

How do you like the 4 cylinder mustang? I kinda regret going with the v6 instead of turbo 4

I do miss not having the sound of the V8, but otherwise love the car. Tons of mid range torque, up at high altitude the turbo makes all the difference. And it handles better than the 5.0 due to a lot less nose weight. Daily driving I get ~22mpg. But have gotten almost 33 on the HWY.

Only mod right now is a muffler delete, which sounds good and zero drone. The V6 actually sounds really good with the same setup.

Turbo is probably the only decent way to go up Sonora pass, good choice.
I had the occasion to drive a saab 4cyl turbo eons ago, it was a fun car to go up to the sierras, and eastern sierras, fortunately I did not have to pay for maintenance.
The 85 was crawling going up sonora pass, then the fan clutch decided to give up right after the 26% grade, so I had to stop, put the cone / triangle and wait 30 min, then repeat every 15mins... at some point I decided to go low range and 15mph did not seem to challenge the lock up front/rear axle, which help on the cooling with the heat on full ...

I've been kicking around the idea of going getting straight pipes but it just never seems to pan out. I've also debated getting a small nitrous system for a 75 shot just to add a bit of fun but the wife shot that down real quick

I actually thought of you! But no cell service there to send a PM. Waved at the Marines out working by the HWY though.

I saw somewhere that Lake Tahoe was taking in a lot of water right now. Great pics Stuka. That one in the middle looks like fast water.
