Growing up in the Unitas I always wondered why the north faced mountainsides were covered in pumice all the way as far south as New Mexico?
They didn't know for a long time...It just dawned on a geologist one day in the late 70's sitting on top of the mountain in Yellowstone looking across to the other peak 30 miles away that that was the other side of the caldera and that Yellowstone was a giant super volcano.
