Yeah, if it really blows it is going to be really bad.

Man, I love geoscience! I really look forward to what gets learned and extrapolated from this. I'm not one to worry about doomsday scenarios, that's no way to live one's life, but that would be something else if it does blow.

Personally, I blame all those darned drones people keep crashing into the geysers, plugging them up and building pressure. :P

Earthquakes happen up there all the time. This is nothing new or out of the ordinary.

Like Matt said, can't spend too long worrying about doomsday scenarios. Be ready in case something happens but don't live life in fear.

That being said I'll be sure to know where my respirator is!

When St. Helens popped back in the day we had 4-6" in western Montana. Lots of air filters and engine rebuilds were the major negative effects. The positive effect was the ash fertilizing the soil. Stuff grew like mad the next year.

If Yellowstone did pop, wouldn't we have more to worry about than ash? I remember something about a red zone from science class...

I was just a wee tot back then, but I swear I remember seeing the ash falling in Grand Junction, CO. I don't remember the ash on the ground, but the little flecks floating in the air I remember for some reason. Probably because of the grown ups talking about it.

According to the recent reports, swarming is higher than it has been in the last few years. But is lower than similar swarms that happened in 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2010. So not much to worry about. Scientists still rate the chances of an eruption as "low".

How about the New Madrid fault line in the Tri-state area. Worst recorded quake in American history [except Alaska]. Mississippi ran backwards

Unfortunately, if the ash is deep it will block oxygen from the soil, thus sterilizing it.

Uh not really because we (in CO at least) would be vaporized. So... Maybe it can at least wait until AFTER Ouray??? Image

^^ yup. Not saying it is or isn't gonna happen but my understanding is it would be nothing like Mt St Helens. More like an unimaginably massive explosion versus what we normally think of as an eruption. There would be very little left for many states around and the loss of life and disruption of day to day business would be uncharted.

"Low", in 3 months or in 300 years, so it will be after Ouray
